“The Garden” is a short fantasy film about a teenage ballerina Luc, battling a regime of mean robots in the not-so-distant future. Through her passion for dance she is able to preserve her humanity in the hopelessness of the post-apocalyptic world.
Ballet San Jose NEEDS your help!
Our board has announced an emergency funding campaign in an effort to raise $550,000 by March 14th. Without this money Ballet San Jose will be forced to close its doorsleaving 33 company dancers unemployed and 300 students without a place to train. This would be a HUGE loss of art and culture for Silicon Valley and devastating to our extremely talented and diverse company.
Thanks to our CEO Alan Highline, our board of directors, and our beloved Artistic Director José Manuel Carreño Ballet San Jose is NOT going down without a fight.
Here is where you come in:
We have 9 days to #SaveBalletSJ and we desperately need to get the word out about our situation. People need to know what is at stake here. So please, please help get the word out. (Tumblr, we know you’re great at sharing things that are important to you, we saw how fast that Sergei video went around! ) We desperately need momentum on this campaign, so please do what you can, donate, Like, Reblog, Share on Facebook, tweet about it, Instagram it, yell it from the rooftops, scream it at strangers!
Here is the link to Donate and to read the official press release.
I’ve been getting a lot of negative messages about “skinny” dancers/ballerinas, how “all dancers are skinny”, people asking about my weight, questions about a normal ballerinas weight, etc. Yes, many dancers/ballerinas are thin. No, not all of them have an eating disorder. Just because a dancer may be naturally thin, doesn’t mean people should hate on them for their body type. Professional dancers and ballerinas go through hours of practice, rehearsals, conditioning, etc. which keeps their body in shape. It can be offensive to hear people make fun of the stereotypical “dancers body”. Stop the hate! Skinny shaming can be just as bad as making fun of someone if they are overweight.
“Just because someone is slender doesn’t necessarily mean that they have an eating disorder and accusing them of so is still damaging and hurtful. “You never know what someone is dealing with just by looking at their body size,” Mysko tells Yahoo Style. Additionally, people who struggle with eating disorders come in all shapes and sizes and stigmatizing the illness in this way is disrespectful to those who are actually sick.” -The Skinny on Skinny Shaming, yahoo news
